Welcome to Irmo South Carolina

Your ideal southern town.

This beautiful community located in Lexington County, South Carolina, started out as a water and gas stop for trains between Columbia and Newberry. Incorporated December of 1890, the town received it name, Irmo, after two railroad officials, Mr. Iredell and Mr. Moseley. Known as a sleepy, farming town, Irmo remained small and somewhat rural until the 1960’s when the first subdivisions went up. Despite a population boom over the last fifty years, Irmo still maintains a calm, southern mentality. Community comes first, which means we have the best schools and the safest neighborhoods. With a thriving local business sector, Irmo is a great place to start your small business or expand your large business.
